Identity theft and fraud are evolving faster than ever. Scammers are using more sophisticated methods — sometimes powered by artificial intelligence — to trick people into giving up sensitive information. Seniors are often targeted, but in reality, anyone can fall victim.

In this video, Marc Bautis, Founder of Bautis Financial, walks you through some of the most common ways your personal information could be compromised — and what you can do to protect yourself. He also introduces a practical tool to help you assess your risk: a complimentary checklist, Am I At Risk of Having My Identity Stolen or Being a Victim of Fraud?

Some of the key strategies include:

  • Passwords and Apps: Avoid using the same password across multiple websites or apps. Consider using a password manager, like LastPass or NordPass, to generate strong, unique passwords.
  • Multifactor Authentication: Enable it wherever possible. A second layer of security — like a code sent to your phone — makes it much harder for hackers to access your accounts.
  • Links, Downloads, and Phishing: Only download files or click links you are expecting. Be skeptical of emails, texts, or phone calls asking for personal information. Verify the source independently before taking any action.

These tips are just a few of the 26 steps included in our checklist, designed to help you evaluate your exposure and take action to reduce your risk.
