Home to the highest number of top 100 universities in the world, the United States has no shortage of exceptional schools to apply to.

From the range of programs to tuition costs and student life, prospective students have a range of factors to consider when deciding which school is best for them.

Forbes’ annual America’s Top Colleges rankings provide valuable insights by evaluating U.S. universities on 14 key metrics, including median debt and salary, to determine which colleges offer the best educational, financial, and career outcomes for all students.

A chart from Visual Capitalist shows the top 25 American colleges in 2024 from Forbes’ top 100 list, as well as their respective median post-graduate 10-year salary and median debt after graduation. View the graphic below.

For the second year in a row, Princeton University has grabbed the #1 spot by acing all 14 metrics Forbes uses to determine which 500 American colleges offer the best outcomes for all students. Amount its standout numbers: a 97% six-year graduation rate for low-income students.

There was also noteworthy movement on the list, with Houston’s Rice University making the top ten for the first time, as it moved up to #9 from #22 last year, thanks in part to graduates’ low student debt. Earlier this year, Rice was one of ten private schools, along with ten public schools, named to the “New Ivies.”

Also notable: Six HBCUs earned spots in the top 500, up from three last year.
